Peter, you've done it again! Yup,I agree,Shabbos is literally the highlight of our week. And,if I may just add,all over the jewish religious world, not limited to chassidim per se(except of course the chassidic garb) I do want to elaborate on a point which I'm not sure came through enough: The reason why Shabbos is so special,is because it reminds us every week again of our role and purpose in this world. When G'd created man,HE gave him permission to conquer it, to develop and to use the planet's resources. However, all too easily could man forget himself and overstep his bounderies by exploiting the world and fellow man in his quest for conquer. He needs constant reminding of the fact that the world isn't his to own,but merely to look after with care. That affects both his relationship with nature and fellow man. Both the planet and fellow human ought to be respected, cared for and dealt with fairly. Shabbos is there to remind man of his responsibilities; by refraining from all activities which are generated by the human mind, he's constantly being reminded that the he,as acomplished as he might be in developing the world by the use of his sophisticated mind, ultimatly,he is not in charge and the planet isn's his to own. That generates humility. It's with this lesson in mind that we aproach the following week. Understanding what our responsibilities ought to be and Who we're subject to. Note, that the forbidden activities on shabbos aren't necessarily activities which require bodily effort, but activities which are born of a result of the human mind. Like lighting fire(or in today's times, all matters related to electricity..) It's not the animal like body which is put to the test, but the sophisticated human mind. This is the deeper lesson of shabbos and that's why shabbos is called" the covenant between the Jew and his Creator "( proclaimed in the words in the kiddush, the blessing over the cup of wine at the onset of the meal) Aside from the "don't does "on shabbos, there's a special obligation to honor the shabbos with special food, drink, clothing set aside for shabbos. I think that part came across very well in the video. Needless to say that different families have different means and most aren't as elaberate, however, they all, across the board will save the best and finest for shabbos. Even little children know that goodies are bought for shabbos.. One more note: Peter mentioned the meal being jovial and lighter than expected. Yes,there's great atmosphere around the table, but the conversation also includes discussing the part of the bible which is read in the synagoge that week(a different portion every week), it's meaning and lessons for us. Children contribute to the conversation by sharing all they've learned ,stories are being told. Like I said, shabbos carries a message,to remind us of man's connection to G'd and his purpose in this world and that's reflected in the conversation at the table. Not in a heavy, stiff or boring way, but rather in an intelectual, interesting way, keeping both kids and adults entertained. I thank you Peter, and your hosts for allowing viewers across the globe that get an idea as to why shabbos is so sacred to us,and please note again, that the beauty and unique atmosphere isn't dependant on the exterior of the home, but you'll find the warmth and the joy and the delicious food in very simple homes too!!!

Dear non Lord! For anyone who wants to know the truth about the Sabbath here goes. Phil Dodd from historia antiqua here. The Babylonians observed seven celestial objects which they noted had accurate and predictable rotation patterns and corresponding events on the Earth. They had some setup. Every single night was observed and scribes noted in finite details the location of different Stars and anything they noted because they of course worshiped the Stars believing them to be the gods. Without telescopes, only seven objects are visible by the naked eye from our solar system plus obviously many stars beyond our Solar system.. They are the sun, the moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. You will note that those are the same as the names of the week. They believe that each level of heavens was governed by a different God, so the planets are not named *after* gods, they literally are what they believed were the gods. You observe these celestial bodies from the earth under the false impression that the Earth is at the center of the universe it appears that they all have a different orbital pattern with some of them rotating around the Earth like Venus does in about a year, and Saturn taking the longest, some 23 years. Thus Saturn became old man time, in the Greek called Kronos where we get the word "chronology" for example. Also, in many PIE languages the word "Sat" as in Sat-urn, means "time" or "hour." So each God got their day of the week, thus Sunday is the Sun's Day and Thursday is Thor's day, the Germanic equivalent of perun and Jupiter. Because Saturn took the longest he was old man time or the reaper of Cythia, and the Canaanites or people of Canaan, Kenan, or KNN, Phoenicians, from whom the ancient Jews originate, worshipped Chronos as their main god. Thus in the myth, Kronos eats his children, sunday, Monday, tuesday, Wednesday etc, and the new week can therefore begin, it's an allegory for the week made up of 7 days. God rested because the week is over and Saturn as in Saturn-day, "ate" his children meaning the week is over. In Hebrew he's known as Yahweh "Tzva'ot" or Sabbaoth, which is one of, you guessed it, out of the 7 names of God.

Love this video! I am not Jewish but my family and I do celebrate Shabbot as Christians (lighting of the candles, banging on tables, give blessings, etc). However, I will point out we are not as technical with the rules. We absolutely love that time of the week, it is some of our favorite days of the week aside from Succoth. Truly gives rest and focuses on the important things in life and overall just builds our family team.

Not sure where to start. But it is not a coincidence that I watched on Netflix one episode of Unorthodox (I could not watch second. Something turned me away). And I believe Peter mentioned this show in one of his videos. He said Unorthodox was his only experience about Hasidic community. And after this I watched Peter's episode with Malka, Hasidic creative person. And after this one more and another. Now understand that even being forced to atheism I never lost my roots, my inner connection with Jewish world and traditions. And it makes me happy. And disrespect to the roots like it is shown in Unorthodox just turned me away despite all this feminism, progressivism, career and money. Be real, respect your religion, your traditions and your community. And Peter showed that hasidic people can achieve a lot without breaking loose. Thank you. By the way, my mother was born near Uman, city in Ukraine sacred to millions of Jews and Schlemiel mentioned in one of the videos.

My husband and I rented a rear apartment from a wonderful family, Orthodox Persian Jews from Iran. It was always humorous and fascinating when, on Shabbat, one of the kids or the Mom would come and ask (not Jewish) us to flip a light switch on or turn off an oven that they forgot or didn't get to in time. The majority of the neighborhood was Orthodox, something we didn't know when we moved in, and we quickly learned our landlord's home was one of the community meeting places. It was also the annual location for Kapparot before Yom Kippur. Bless them, they tried to warn us ahead of time what to expect... but we were NOT ready for hundreds of dead chickens. Now, in all fairness, they did it properly and sanitation was top notch, with certified butchers immediately preparing the chickens and getting them ready for their charitable donations. In this particular community, the butchers actually sold the chickens to the public and the funds were then donated. It's a really popular event and it is used to help unite the community, since there's a large mix of faiths. THey kind of all get together as an interfaith celebration/fundraiser for local charities. But that first year, we were pretty overwhelmed not knowing what was happening. We lived there for 6 years and enjoyed it a lot.

By adopting a lifestyle that demands hard work, respect, education, etc. You don't have to be Jewish to do these things but it does come with the territory. Same with East Asians that come to the US, they have a hard work ethic too and focus on education.

This is pretty cool to see all the rules and how they follow them. To think how Yeshua not only kept all these rules flawlessly, but he also never sinned and broke a commandment in his 33 years of life and went to the cross for all of us is absolutely beautiful. :) God bless all.

Peter thank you so much for creating this video! There has been so much antisemitism lately against Jews and lies being spread about our culture. I so appreciate you showing the beauty in our culture and sharing it with the world. Continue to do all the incredible work you do! ❤️

I think, a lot of the misconstruction of the Jewish people and the tension we see in the world could be avoided by more people allowing us into their homes. Sharing the special moments. Good public relations relies on the relations. Thank you for sharing.
